Analysis of Heat Equations on Domains (LMS 31) (London Mathematical Society Monographs)

October 1st 2009 in Mathematics

Analysis of Heat Equations on Domains (LMS-31) (London Mathematical Society Monographs) By El-Maati OuhabazPublisher: Princeton University Press 2004-10-11 | 296 Pages | ISBN: 0691120161 | PDF | 1.7 MBThis is the first comprehensive reference published on heat equations associated with non self-adjoint uniformly elliptic operators. The author provides introductory materials for those unfamiliar with the underlying mathematics and background needed to understand the properties of heat equations. He then treats Lp properties of solutions to a wide class of heat equations that have been developed over the last fifteen years. These primarily concern the interplay of heat equations in functional analysis, spectral theory and mathematical physics. This book addresses new developments and applications of Gaussian upper bounds to spectral theory. In particular, it shows how such bounds can be used in order to prove Lp estimates for heat, Schrödinger, and wave type equations. A significant part of the results have been proved during the last decade. The book will appeal to researchers in applied mathematics and functional analysis, and to graduate students who require an introductory text to sesquilinear form techniques, semigroups generated by second order elliptic operators in divergence form, heat kernel bounds, and their applications. It will also be of value to mathematical physicists. The author supplies readers with several references for the few standard results that are stated without proofs. Elliptic Partial Differential Equations and Quasiconformal Mappings in the Plane

October 1st 2009 in Mathematics

Kari Astala, Tadeusz Iwaniec, Gaven Martin, "Elliptic Partial Differential Equations and Quasiconformal Mappings in the Plane"

Princeton University Press | 2008 | ISBN: 0691137773 | 696 pages | PDF | 3,4 MB

This book explores the most recent developments in the theory of planar quasiconformal mappings with a particular focus on the interactions with partial differential equations and nonlinear analysis. It gives a thorough and modern approach to the classical theory and presents important and compelling applications across a spectrum of mathematics: dynamical systems, singular integral operators, inverse problems, the geometry of mappings, and the calculus of variations. It also gives an account of recent advances in harmonic analysis and their applications in the geometric theory of mappings.

The book explains that the existence, regularity, and singular set structures for second-order divergence-type equations--the most important class of PDEs in applications--are determined by the mathematics underpinning the geometry, structure, and dimension of fractal sets; moduli spaces of Riemann surfaces; and conformal dynamical systems. These topics are inextricably d by the theory of quasiconformal mappings. Further, the interplay between them allows the authors to extend classical results to more general settings for wider applicability, providing new and often optimal answers to questions of existence, regularity, and geometric properties of solutions to nonlinear systems in both elliptic and degenerate elliptic settings.

π Electron Magnetism: From Molecules to Magnetic Materials

October 1st 2009 in Physics

Jaume Veciana, "π-Electron Magnetism: From Molecules to Magnetic Materials"Springer | 2001 | ISBN: 3540416803 | 212 pages | PDF | 6 MBThe series Structure and Bonding publishes critical reviews on topics of research concerned with chemical structure and bonding. The scope of the series spans the entire Periodic Table and addresses structure and bonding issues associated with all of the elements. It also focuses attention on new and developing areas of modern structural and theoretical chemistry such as nanostructures, molecular electronics, designed molecular solids, surfaces, metal clusters and supramolecular structures. Physical and spectroscopic techniques used to determine, examine and model structures fall within the purview of Structure and Bonding to the extent that the focus is on the scientific results obtained and not on specialist information concerning the techniques themselves. Issues associated with the development of bonding models and generalizations that illuminate the reactivity pathways and rates of chemical processes are also relevant. The individual volumes in the series are thematic. The goal of each volume is to give the reader, whether at a university or in industry, a comprehensive overview of an area where new insights are emerging that are of interest to a larger scientific audience. Thus each review within the volume critically surveys one aspect of that topic and places it within the context of the volume as a whole. The most significant developments of the last 5 to 10 years should be presented using selected examples to illustrate the principles discussed. A description of the physical basis of the experimental techniques that have been used to provide the primary data may also be appropriate, if it has not been covered in detail elsewhere. The coverage need not be exhaustive in data, but should rather be conceptual, concentrating on the new principles being developed that will allow the reader, who is not a specialist in the area covered, to understand the data presented. Discussion of possible future research directions in the area is welcomed.Celebrating Volume 100: Thirty years ago Springer-Verlag together with a distinguished Board of Editors started the series Structure and Bonding. Initially the series was set up to publish reviews from different fields of modern inorganic chemistry, chemical physics and biochemistry, where the general subject of chemical bonding involves a metal and a small number of associated atoms. Three years ago the aims of the series was refined to span the entire periodic table and address structure and bonding issues wherever they may be relevant. Not only the traditional areas of chemical bonding will be dealt with but also nanostructres, molecular electronics, supramolecular structure, surfaces and clusters. With these aims in mind it is noteworthy that Volume 100 effectively reinforces and illustrates these ideals and is titled Pi-Electron Magnetism from Molecules to Magnetic Materials.Chapters in this volume:- An Organic Radical Crystal Showing Spontaneous Ferromagnetic Order- The Mechanism of the Through-Space Magnetic Interactions in Purely Organic Molecular Magnets- Metal-Aminoxyl-Based Molecular Magnets- Magnetic Properties of Thiazyl Radicals- Magnetism in Fullerene Derivatives- Molecular Compounds Showing a Spin Ladder Behaviourdepositfiles.comuploading.commirrorNot all books on AvaxHome appear on the homepage. In order not to miss many of them follow ebooks section (see top of each page on AH)and visittoo :)NO MIRRORS according tothe rules

Einführung in die berufliche Weiterbildung

September 30th 2009 in Study
